COVID-19 Updates: NCDC reports 44 fresh cases, countrywide toll now 165,559: deaths figure stands at 2,066

Nigeria’s COVID-19 cases increased from 165,515 ss of Tuesday to 165,559 on Wednesday with 44 new infections reported.

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed this in its daily update on Coronavirus infections and containment efforts.

According to the NCDC’s data, 16 patients recovered and were discharged from various isolation centres in the country, while a person died of COVID-19 complications.

Giving a breakdown of the fresh infections, the NCDC said Lagos State reported 28, Rivers-14, Akwa Ibom-1 and Ekiti-1.

As of 12th of May 2021, a total of 2,066 persons had lost their lives to the virus in Nigeria, while 156,374 patients recovered.

Meanwhile, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has so far vaccinated 1,748,242 persons against the virus across the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
