Coronavirus: Germany announces new ccupational safety standards.
In less than two weeks, German people whose hair has taken on the unkempt style of the lockdown era will be able to return to the salon but it’ll cost them.
A top industry representative warned on Thursday that prices would go up as a result of the strict hygiene measures in place for hairdressers to reopen their doors.
This is down to the additional time required to put in place new occupational safety standards and the cost of protective equipment, Joerg Mueller, head of the Central Association of German Hairdressing, told dpa.
Under a gradual reopening of parts of German public life following gains in the battle against coronavirus, hairdressers are to be allowed to reopen from May 4, under strict conditions.
These include mandatory mouth-and-nose covers for stylists and their clients, as well as distancing rules that will reduce the number of customers a salon can bring through the door.
Services such as eyelash tinting, barbershop shaves and beard care will not be allowed under the new standards, which were announced on Wednesday.
Industry experts are expecting prices to increase on average by 1-2 euros (1.08-2.16 dollars), the MDR Jump radio broadcaster reported.
