Daily death record of COVID-19 patients moved from 68 deaths as of Friday to 85 on Saturday.
This shows that 17 patients died on Saturday making the casualty figure the highest number since the virus made its debut in Nigeria in February.
However, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday recorded new cases of COVID-10 in huge numbers.
According to the report by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), there were 220 new cases out of which Lagos and the FCT reported 62 and 52 new infections respectively.
They were followed by Kaduna with 31 new cases but there was no records of new cases in Kano, which has become the focus of attention lately on account of unusually high number of deaths from unknown causes.
In all the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria as at Saturday, 2 May is 2,388.
The number of COVID-19 patients discharged moved up from 351 on Friday to 385 on Saturday, according to the NCDC report.
