A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Yola, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of a tricycle rider, Abdulsalam Abdullahi, in Jimeta correctional centre over alleged stealing and hurting a passenger.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police had charged Abdullahi , of Yelwa in Yola North Local Government, with armed robbery and causing hurt before Chief Magistrate Musa Adamu.
Adamu ordered that the defendant be remanded till May13 for collaboration of evidence and possible summary trial, following his guilty plea.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Emmanuel Paul, had told the court that the complainant, Miss
Happy Peter, of Hayan Gadda, reported the matter at Yelwa police station on May 7 at about 7:45 p.m.
Paul said that on the said date, the complainant boarded a tricycle and while on transit, the rider, who is also the defendant, brought out a cutlass and threatened to hit her.
He said that the defendant forcefully robbed the complainant of her valuables, ATM cards, N15,000 cash and a moblie phone valued at N120,000.
The prosecutor said that the defendant pushed Peter out of his tricycle, which led to the latter having severe body injury.
He further stated that the defendant was arrested by the police while attempting to escape.
Paul added that during police investigation, the defendant pleaded guilty to the crime.
He said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 287 and 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018. (NAN)
