Court remands three persons for alleged phones theft

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun, on Friday, remanded three persons for allegedly stealing two phones and N120,000 cash.

The defendants, 26-year-old, Michael Gbadegesin, Omowumi Jimoh, 40 and Kafayat Akinpelu, 25, whose addresses were not provided are facing charges of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen property.

Magistrate K.T. Adebayo ordered the remand of the defendants in the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Ile-Ife.

Thereafter, the magistrate adjourned the case until March 14 to consider the bail application of the defendants.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counseĺ, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Nov. 30, 2022 at 12:05 p.m., at Ajebamidele Area, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the Gbadegesin stole one black bag that contained one Samsung A 20, valued N150,000; one Tecno T454, valued N6,500 and cash sum of N120,000, property of Samson Adegboyega.

He said that after stealing the valuables Gbadegesin handed the Tecno T454 to Jimoh, who unlawfully received it knowing the same to be a stolen property of one Adegboyega Samson.

The prosecution counsel further said that sometimes in December 2020 in Akire, Ilupeju Area of Modakeke in Ile-Ife, the 3rd defendant, Akinpelu, also received the Samsung A20 phone from Gbadegesin.

He said that the offences committed contravened Sections 383, 390(9) and 427 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defence Counsel, Mrs Oluwatosin Omoyeni, applied for the bail of the defendants in most liberal term, and promised that his clients would not jump bail, but would provide responsible sureties.(NAN)
