An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 29-year-old man, Sunday John, in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery.

The prosecutor, Insp Moyosola Adesola, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 25, 2023 in Ado-Ekiti.

Adesola alleged that the defendant conspired and robbed one Duduyemi Fatai of his motorcycle.

She said the victim, a student of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, parked his motorcycle in front of his hostel, and suspecting movement of people, saw the defendant and some men trying to push his motorcycle.

“The victim came out and one of them pointed a gun at him, while two others beat him with a cutlass at the back of his head and took away the motorcycle,” Adesola said.

According to her, the offence contravened Section 312(2) (a) & (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The plea of the defendant was, however, not taken.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Franca Olaiya, ordered his remand in the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice.

She adjourned the case untill Feb. 21, for mention.
