A Makurdi Magistrate’s court on Friday remanded Solomon Azuana over an alleged attempt to commit culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.
The Magistrate, Mrs Adah Jack, did not take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction.
Jack ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Makurdi Correctional Centre while investigations continue.
She adjourned the case to Oct 6, further mention.
The police prosecutor, Insp James Ewaoche told the court that the case was reported by Azuana Terpase of Tsar Mbaduku in Vandeikya LGA at the Vandeikya Divisional police headquarters, Benue.
The complainant stated that the defendant on Aug. 20, took a sharp cutlass and small iron axe, and inflicted injuries on the complainant’s father Vershima Azuana.

Ewaoche said that the complainant`s father is an uncle to the defendant.
He said the defendant claimed his uncle was responsible for the death of his daughter, Ngoundu Aondoaver, who died in July as a result of drinking insecticide.
According to him, the complainant said the defendant accused the uncle of using spiritual means to lure his daughter into drinking the insecticide, which led to her death.
“During the police investigation, the defendant was arrested for committing the crime, and he claimed the victim was responsible for his daughter’s death.
“The police also found the matchet and axe used in committing the crime at the defendant`s house after a thorough search, “he said.
He said that further investigations by the police to the hospital in Vandeikya saw the victim lying unconscious, where he was admitted.
Ewaoche said that the medical reports confirmed that the injuries on his body were a result of the attack by the defendant.
The prosecution stated that the investigation into the matter was still ongoing and requested that the court set another date for mention.
He said the offence contravened Section 230, 246 of the Penal Code Law of Benue State CAP 124 (2004), and Section 1(1)(a)(b)(c)(2) (i) of the Terrorism Prevention Act. Act No. 10, 2011.
