A magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, has ordered DNA tests to determine the paternity of Liam Aloba, the son of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The ruling, delivered by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga, on Tuesday, followed an application by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who sought to confirm the child’s paternity.

The respondent in the matter is the late singer’s wife, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba.

According to court documents, Aloba argued that uncertainty surrounded Liam’s paternity and that a DNA test was crucial for the child’s welfare and to resolve maintenance obligations.

He requested that tissue or hair samples be taken from Mohbad’s remains at the Military Hospital, Yaba, for use in the test.

Counsel Augustine Adegbemi represented the applicant, while Kabir Akingbolu appeared for the respondent.

With no objection raised, the court granted the request.

The court ordered that two separate DNA tests be carried out—one in Nigeria and another abroad—in accredited medical facilities.

Both parties or their representatives must be present during sample collection.

The matter was adjourned to November 11, 2025, for further proceedings.
