A Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 2, Federal Capital Territory, has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to produce a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Oyediran Oyeyemi, in court for allegations of impersonation.

The order was issued on Wednesday by Magistrate Sunday Adukwu following a motion filed by counsel to the complainant, Anthony Agbazuere.
Oyeyemi, who officially retired from the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 2024, is accused of presenting himself as an officer still in active service.
The complainant, a private citizen, Uche Ezike, alleged that the retired officer issued a letter on May 6, 2024, using the title of AIG without indicating his retirement status.
At the resumed hearing, Oyeyemi was absent from court despite reportedly being served with a summons on July 24.
In response, Agbazuere sought a bench warrant for his arrest.
“The defendant has failed to honour the court’s order to appear,” Agbazuere told the court.
“He continues to wear police uniform and hang it in his office under the guise of his role as Secretary of the Police Cooperative Society.”
Agbazuere argued that the retired officer’s continued use of the police title and uniform in public communications constitutes a violation of Section 132 of the Penal Code, which criminalizes impersonation.
Magistrate Adukwu, in a brief ruling, acknowledged the gravity of the allegations and stressed the need for the defendant’s presence in court.
He directed the Inspector-General of Police to ensure Oyeyemi’s appearance on September 8, 2025.
The matter was adjourned to the same date for further proceedings.
