Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has been admitted to the hospital following intense online criticism.
The backlash came after Wumi responded to comments made by veteran actor and director Afeez Owo about a character she played in a recent movie.
Afeez, who is married to actress Mide Martins, had shared his opinion on her role during an interview.
Wumi disagreed publicly with his remarks. Her response sparked widespread criticism on social media, with some fans agreeing with Afeez’s assessment.
On Thursday morning, Wumi disclosed that the pressure from online reactions affected her health and led to her hospitalisation.
She shared a photo from her hospital bed, describing her situation as closely linked to the stress caused by Internet attacks.
She asked her followers for well-wishes and promised to handle things differently in the future.
She wrote: “Internet dragging and ICU are siblings. I have heard you all, will do better next time. Wish me quick recovery.”
The situation comes after Wumi criticised a senior colleague in the movie industry over his recent interview.
Afeez had spoken about their strained relationship in a YouTube podcast, saying he was no longer close to Wumi, unlike in her early days in the film industry when they often wrote scripts together and produced movies.
