The Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yussuf Ayoola, has debunked the claims that kingmakers have neglected the tradition of consulting the Ifa oracle to pick the most suitable among the contestants for Alaafin stool.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin of Oyo, Bode Durojaiye.
The Basorun restated his commitment to upholding justice and fairness in the choice of a new Alaafin, and called on those he said were peddling unfounded rumours to desist from the behavior.
According to the statement, there was no crisis among the kingmakers on the ongoing process because they were all united and would not do anything that would have negative effect on the town and its people.
“Ifa consultation and not voting in whatever form will determine who will be the next king,” said the Basorun.
“We (Oyo Mesi) are one and indivisible. Where did they get the unsubstantiated information that we are in disarray? It is the handiwork of the spent forces who do not wish us well.
“It is true that all of us held a meeting in my house, and it was inconclusive. We will still reconvene again. All the members were not only in good spirit, but embraced one another, even cracking jokes after the meeting devoid of rancour and ill feelings.” (TNG)
