As part of his effort to keep residents in the Federal Capital Territory and its environs abreast of security situations, and other topical issues bordering on national security within the Federal Capital, the Commander, Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Muhammed Takuti Usman, on Wednesday, held a media parley with Defence Correspondence in Abuja
The media parley, which was held at the Brigade Conference Hall, Aguyi Ironsi Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja, focused on the general security and recent happening and the need for all hands to be on deck to ensure the safety of life and property.
The Commander noted that the parley became necessary and timely considering the current security happenings around Abuja and its environs and the vital roles the media play in ensuring a safe and secure society.
He called on the media to remain committed to nations’s building and partners in progress by ensuring that reports disseminated to the public were not only true but also verified and confirmed as fake news might cause apprehension and do more harm than good.
The Commander further called on the society to support and trust the military through timely release of actionable intelligence which would in turn help the military and other security agencies to accomplish the task of securing and defending the society effectively.
He described the attack on university of Abuja Staff Quarters as unfortunate, assuring Nigerians that troops of the Brigade had been deployed in a search-and-rescue operation to rescue the affected persons and apprehend the criminals.
Also in their separate remarks, the Commander Guards Brigade Garrison, Lt Col Joshua Okwoli, Commanding Officer 7 Guards Battalion, Lt Col Salim Hassan and the Brigade Chief of Staff, Lt Col Rilwan Bello all assured residents that men and Officers of the Brigade were currently in the field across the Federal Capital to ensure that there was no security breach, calling on all responsible citizens to support the security agencies through timely and actionable informations.
They Units Commanders also assured residents that anyone who supported the security agencies with credible information was also being proactive in carrying out his civic duties as responsible citizens and would enhance and support the various ongoing security operations aimed at securing the society.
They added that security was the responsibility of all.
The Brigade Senior Officers, said more technology were being deployed in aiding the security agencies in several ongoing security operations within the environs, calling further on all citizens to remain law abiding and conscious of the security situations in their various domains so as to assist the security agencies achieve the result of securing the Federal Capital.
The media parley was well attended by members of the press from the FCT.
Also in attendance were staff officers of the Brigade.
