Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has emphasized the importance of utilizing the skills and knowledge gained from training to effectively plan and carry out operations for the benefit of national security objectives.
Gen Yahaya issued this directive on May 18, 2023, during the graduation ceremony of officers and soldiers who underwent training in the EXERCISE RESTORE HOPE IV Series at the Nigerian Army Training Centre in Kachia, Kaduna.
Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, explained that the training, which commenced on January 25, 2023, included troops from various formations and units who underwent rigorous drills and training in marksmanship, unarmed battle drills, and advanced Special Forces techniques.
The well-attended ceremony showcased the graduands’ newly acquired combat proficiency through a series of shooting and tactical drills.
During his speech at the event, the COAS expressed his satisfaction with the successful conduct of the training, which was carried out solely by the Nigerian Army Training Team for the first time.
He acknowledged that the previous three series of Exercise Restore Hope were conducted with the assistance of foreign partners.
Gen Yahaya emphasized the significance of training in his command philosophy and stated that the Exercise Restore Hope series provider a platform for adequately preparing troops to operate in a complex and dynamic security environment.
He announced that due to the numerous benefits and impact of the exercise, the training series would continue in the Nigerian Army.
Furthermore, preparations for Exercise Restore Hope V are almost complete, with a majority of the troops being young soldiers who recently graduated from Depot NA.
The COAS pledged that training would be given the utmost priority under his leadership in the Nigerian Army.
Taking the opportunity, the Army Chief expressed his gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, for his strategic guidance, unwavering support, and encouragement to the Nigerian Army.
Gen Yahaya reassured the nation of the unwavering loyalty of the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to the President and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The ceremony was attended by the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Principal Staff Officers of Army Headquarters, the Commander of the Infantry Corps, and General Officers Commanding the 1st and 3rd Divisions, among others.
Representatives from security agencies in Kachia, the Chairman of Kachia Local Government, the Agom Kachia, and both serving and retired senior officers were also present.
The event concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to special guests and the training team.
