The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has commended the Bayelsa State Government for its consistent dedication to the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel, highlighting how such support strengthens peace and security throughout the state.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen.Waidi Shaibu, gave the commendation on Thursday when he led other Senior Military Officers on a courtesy/ condolence visit to Gov.Douye Diri in Government House, Yenagoa.
Gen. Shaibu lauded the state for constructing and formally handing over residential quarters to the 16 Brigade at Elebele in Ogbia Local Government Area.
He stressed that the development which includes nine units of three-bedroom flats and two blocks of nine units of two-bedroom apartments for non-commissioned officers effectively tackles the Brigade’s persistent accommodation difficulties.
The COAS noted that the gesture would bring considerable relief to soldiers and represent a significant stride in alleviating logistical constraints for the unit.
Gen. Shaibu explained that the visit had two main objectives: carrying out his first operational review of combat readiness in the 6th Division’s area of responsibility, encompassing Bayelsa, and offering condolences to Governor Diri and the family of the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

In his response, Governor Diri expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for recognizing the state’s contributions toward improving the safety and security of its citizens.
The governor commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their remarkable professionalism and the sacrifices they make to protect lives and property.
Diri reiterated his administration’s deep appreciation for the armed forces’ commitment, emphasizing that the state fully acknowledges and values their indispensable role in national security.
He urged the military to continue their outstanding performance, assuring them that the Bayelsa government remains prepared to provide whatever support is needed to maintain an enabling environment for their duties.
Governor Diri further expressed delight at the successful and timely completion of the residential project, reaffirming that it would substantially reduce accommodation challenges for officers and men of the 16 Brigade.
Following the engagement, the Chief of Army Staff visited the Headquarters of Task Force Operation Delta Safe, where he held discussions with the Commander, Rear Admiral Olugbenga Oladipo.
