CoAS charges community to utilize donated infrastructure and medical equipment

The Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, has urged members of the Buguma Community to make optimal use of the medical equipment donated to the community health centre and the newly-remodeled Asalga Nursery and Primary school.

The CoAS made this call during the inauguration and handover of the projects.

Represented by Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe, the CoAS expressed his satisfaction that the projects would positively impact the lives of the community members. He acknowledged the support and goodwill the Nigerian Army has received from the entire country and particularly the Buguma Community.

The projects were sited in honor of Major General Tonye Numbere, an illustrious son of the community.

In a statement Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Iweha Ikedichi said the CoAS also reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to observing corporate social responsibility and providing social safety nets to those in need.

He emphasized that the army’s vision was to have a professional Nigerian Army capable of accomplishing assigned missions in a joint environment in the defence of Nigeria.

To achieve this, the army must pay attention to non-kinetic aspects of military operations, including building a cordial relationship with civil populace and host communities.

During the inauguration ceremony, Major General Tonye Numbere, Chairman Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Army post housing limited, explained that the projects were deliberately chosen to affect a large percentage of the population and inspire hope for the younger generation.

He added that a skills acquisition center was included in the school to teach vocational skills to as many people as possible.

In his welcome remarks, Honourable Onengiyeofori George, Executive Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area Council, thanked the CoAS for recognizing the contribution of one of their sons in the Nigerian Army and for the critical projects in education, skills acquisition, and healthcare.

The ceremony ended with the inauguration and handover of the projects to the community, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs.

Major General Numbere took the opportunity to call for the support of Buguma citizens in developing and positively changing the architectural landscape of the community.
