Coalition: Atiku, PDP leaders in high-level meeting

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar is meeting with some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja to decide the grey areas concerning the planned coalition to oust President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 if he decides to contest.

A former Senate President, David Mark who is touted to be the protem chairman of the new coalition, is attendance.

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Chief Tom Ikimi

Former PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus

Women leaders Mrs. Josephine Anenih and Hajia Inna Ciroma

Former Rivers Governor Celestine Omehia

Former presidential adviser Sen. Ben Obi

Former Minister of Education Dr. Sam Egwu

Former Niger Governor Dr. Babangida Aliyu

Former PDP spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan

The gathering, which has most of those attending as PDP members, has gone into a closed-door meeting as of the time of filing this report [5.14 pm on Tuesday, July 1, 2025].

The meeting, according to a report by Daily Trust, is aimed at fine-tuning strategies ahead of the unveiling of the much-talked about coalition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Since he lost the 2023 general elections, Atiku has been in the vanguard of forming a broad based coalition that will tackle the APC.

Atiku has repeatedly said merger is the only way to remove the APC, which came into power via a similar move in 2015.
