Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the 22nd Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), has officially retired from service.

He clocked the mandatory retirement age of 70 today.

He began his judicial career in 1982 as a Senior Magistrate Grade II in Oyo state judiciary.

The jurist was appointed to Supreme Court bench on November 22, 2011.

He was sworn in as CJN on June 27, 2022, after the resignation of his predecessor, Justice Tanko Muhammad.

National Judicial Council (NJC) had, on August 15, 2024, disclosed that it had recommended Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for appointment as next Chief Justice of Nigeria.
