The Industrial Training Fund, ITF, in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria, CIPMN, has targeted 10,000,000 artisans annually for skill-up programme.
They intend to set up at least 10,000 training centres across the country for their training, including the already existing ones.
Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, Director General, ITF, disclosed this during the collaboration with Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria on the Special Certification for Nigerian artisans trained under the skill Up Artisan Programme in Abuja.
He noted that the SUPA programme was a giant leap which would breed the skilled artisans who would fill up job opportunities abroad, thereby becoming a veritable source of foreign exchange.
It will also impact local economy and may generate 1,000,000 new direct and indirect jobs within its first 2 years of implementation.
While addressing the press in Abuja, he said, “In this first round, we have visited and assessed Skills Training centres across the country and have so far enlisted 826. Based on the quality of their infrastructure, these Skills Training Centres are categorised into A, B and C.
“From our assessment, SUPA will revive the various Skills Training Centres that have been moribund across the country and align them to best global standards in delivering training to Trainees.”
Henry Ifeanyi Mbadiwe the Registrar Chartered institute of project managers of Nigeria noted that the idea was to elevate these artisans to an international level so that
many more unemployed Nigerians can create their wealth by engaging in a
highly-skilled, well-regulated, internationally accepted profession that would lift millions of Nigerians from poverty into abundance.
