The Chairman House Committee on the Army, Abdulrazak Namdas, has assured the female gender in the Nigerian Army of gender inclusion in the next coming national budgetary allocations in order to enhance their capability in providing timely and actionable intelligence to further contain insecurity challenges in the country.
Hon. Namdas made this known when he led other members on an oversight visit to the Headquarters Nigerian Army Women’s Corps (NAWC) on 3rd November, 2021 at Giri, Abuja.
He stated that the purpose of their visit was to avail them the opportunity to appraise ongoing operations and assess the level of their performance with a view of prioritizing them in the national budget requirements.
Speaking further, the committee commended the NAWC over the deployment of female personnel in the fights against armed banditry in the country, specifically the 1 Women Special Operational Battalion deployed to man the Kaduna – Abuja express way.
This according to them would no doubt sustain the federal government’s effort in tackling the various internal security challenges and the need to secure the lives and property of all Nigerians.
Earlier, the Commander NAWC Colonel Ibrahim Gambari had briefed the Committee on the Mandate/Responsibilities, Training and Operational activities of the Corps amongst others.
He expressed his gratitude to the legislators, adding that the NAWC is always ready to accomplish any assigned task in realizing the mandate and the vision of the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) which is “To have a professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned missions within a joint environment in defence of Nigeria.
The Commander reassured the committee that the army has zero tolerance for misconduct of troops; therefore any act of misconduct by troops shall be dealt with decisively if investigated to be true.
He pointed out that, NAWC participated in several Exercises which include Operation THUNDER STRIKE, Operation Hadin Kai, Operation Hadarin Daji, Exercise Crocodile Smile, Python Dance and many other operations in support of civil authority.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of plaques, souvenirs and group photograph.
Also in attendance were the Ag Coordinator Nigerian Army Aviation, Brigadier General AL Akpodu, the Chief of Staff NAWC, Colonel BS Omoge and other female officers of the corps.
