Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, and over 100 other air passengers reportedly escaped what could have been a fatal crash.

Their Abuja-bound Max Air flight, as reported, caught fire mid-air on Thursday, causing the pilot of the plane to make an emergency landing.

One of its engines reportedly caught fire ten minutes after it took off from Maiduguri airport in Borno state.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on Lake Chad region, claimed that preliminary reports suggested that one of the aircraft’s engines developed a fault after a bird strike.

The bird strike sparked a fire in the aircraft’s engine, and the pilot had to divert the aircraft back to Maiduguri airport.

According to reports, all the passengers and crew members were not hurt, although some were reportedly momentarily distressed.

The airliner dispatched a replacement aircraft to Maiduguri to lift the stranded passengers.
