Celebration of life as Umakhihes bury their patriarch on June 21

The family of the late High Chief Adewole Ohiozokhai Umakhihe [alias Papa Guy] has announced June 21, 2025, for the interment of his remains in Iyeu Otuo in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Chief Umakhihe, father of a retired federal permanent secretary and Edo governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress [APC], Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, PhD, died on March 2, 2025. He was aged 84.

The family described the late High Chief Adewole as an iconic father, grandfather, great grandfather, bother, uncle, and husband whose life and times impacted them and others positively.

Dr Ernest had, while announcing the passing of his father in a statement in March 2025, said: “Until his death, my beloved father was a man of several parts. He was a retired military personnel, a politician, and one of the leaders of the APC in ward 8, Otuo, in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State. He was also a successful farmer.

“He was equally a notable and key member of the Otuo Traditional Council of Chiefs and Elders.

“He dedicated his life to fostering unity, embracing people from all backgrounds, and tirelessly working for the progress of Otuo community and the entire Owan East.”

The funeral arrangements, as announced by the duo of Barrister James Umakhihe and Dr Ernest Umakhihe on behalf of their family, confirmed Friday, June 20, 2025 for lying in state and wake at the Umakhihe family compound at Ikhueran Quarters, Iyeu Otuo.

Interment has been fixed for Saturday, June 21, followed by social event/entertainment of guests at Azama College, Otuo by 11 am.

Thereafter, there would be observance of traditional rites by the family ONLY, from Sunday, June 22 to Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
