The Central Bank of Nigeria has unveiled first maize pyramids and flagging off of the 2021 maize wet season farming under the maize association of Nigeria (MAAN)-CBN anchor borrowers’ programme in Katsina State.

Speaking at the event, the Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele said maize pyramids were indeed rare, but Nigeria had been able to achieve this through synergy among stakeholders and the resilience of farmers, adding that it would surely spur the bank to do more.

He added that maize was one of the priority crops under the ABP and it was due to the crucial role maize played, as a major staple food item, as well as its role as a significant feedstock for the poultry industry in Nigeria.

Emefiele said the impact of monetary policy measures would be limited, if the country did not address some of the structural constraints that limited productivity in key sectors of our economy such as agriculture.

Central Bank of Nigeria reaffirmed support for youths who want to go into agriculture and had put in place several measures to improve access to credit under the Anchor Borrowers Programme and the Agri Business Small and Medium Enterprises Investment Scheme(AGSMEIS).
