The Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos has announced the death of Very Rev. Msgr. Gabriel Sunsay Osu, who died on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 72.
Osu was born on September 5, 1954, in Ogbego Quarters, Ubulu-Uku, Aniocha South LGA, Delta State. He was ordained a priest on December 5, 1981, and served across several parishes and institutions in the Lagos Archdiocese.
His postings included Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos; St. Gregory College, Ikoyi; St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Oshodi; St. Paul Catholic Church, Ebute-Metta; and Our Lady Star of the Sea, Lekki, where he was resident until his death. He also served for many years as the Archdiocesan Director of Social Communications.
In a circular announcing his passing, the Archbishop of Lagos called for prayers for the repose of Osu’s soul and for the consolation of those mourning. Funeral arrangements will be communicated later.
“May God grant him eternal rest and a place of happiness, light, and peace among the saints,” the archdiocese said.
