Care Homes laud DSS DG for recruiting 27 Orphans into the Service

Orphanages and child welfare groups across Nigeria have praised the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, for recruiting 27 qualified orphans into the Service.

They described the ongoing gesture as compassionate and life-changing for young Nigerians who grew up without parents.

—“A chance we never imagined”—

Administrators said the recruitment gives disadvantaged youths an opportunity to build stable careers in national security and contribute to the country.

“Having been raised in orphanages with limited prospects, the chance to serve in the DSS is something I never imagined possible,” said Rev. Sister Antonella Okeke, Director, Holy Child Motherless Babies Home, Holy Ghost, Enugu North, Enugu State.

The beneficiaries, the homes said, now have more than a job.

“The gesture gave them not just employment, but a sense of identity, direction, and belonging,” one administrator noted.

Rufina Edache Ejembi, Administrator of Margaret Garba Orphanage/Less Privileged Home, Adavi LGA, Kogi State, said the DG’s decision sends a strong message.

“It shows that no Nigerian child should be left behind, regardless of their background or family situation.”

The care homes urged other government institutions and private organisations to emulate the DSS.

“This initiative is so commendable and part of the agency’s efforts to build a more inclusive and humane institution, one that looks beyond paperwork and privilege, to find talent and potential in every corner of Nigerian society,” one of them declared.
