The rumour doing the round that business mogul and Benin-born billionaire, Capt. Hosa Okunbo (popularly referred to as Capt. Hosa) is ill and has been flown abroad, has been dismissed as a wicked lie by mischief makers.
It is just to give the impression that Capt. Hosa is down and out in the aftermath of the Edo state governorship election, which held on September 19, 2020, and in which the candidate he supported, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reportedly lost to the incumbent governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Quoting a knowledgeable source close to Capt. Hosa, Cross Fire (an online news portal) reports that “there is no iota of truth in the malicious rumour being peddled about the failing health of Capt. Hosa.”
”The election has been fought and won, why are they desperate to rubbish the image of Capt. Hosa and even wish him dead if they don’t have a hidden, vicious agenda of vendetta against him?” the source queried.
“In a rare show of statesmanship, Capt. Hosa congratulated the winner of the election, something I am sure they would not have done if the pendulum had swung the other way round,” the source noted.
Cross Fire reports that it further learnt that allegations that Capt. Hosa took contracts from Edo state government, which he never executed, “is untrue”.
”That is absolute bunkum”, according to Capt. Hosa’s confidant who spoke to this medium (Cross Fire).
According to him, “the records are there for anyone to check if Capt. Hosa participated in any so-called contract sleaze. In any case, Governor Godwin Obaseki has been in office for almost four years now, why has he not come out with any evidence and proof that Capt. Hosa is a defaulting contractor to Edo state?”
“Also, talking about the Benin Airport road project that Servtek construction company was involved with under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s government, the records are available in CAC to show that Capt. Hosa is not the owner of the company as being bandied around by those who want to mislead the public.
“In any case, how come a contract Comrade Oshiomhole awarded for less than N7 billion is now suddenly put at over N40 billion if not that those intent on tarnishing the image of an achiever like Capt. Hosa are blinded by lies and hate?
“Capt. Hosa was never involved in the construction of Benin Airport road and he had addressed the issue long ago during the tenure of Comrade Oshiomhole. The desperation of his traducers is pushing them to recycle valueless materials and misinformation,” the report said.
Cross Fire was told that “in spite of the activities of busy bodies, Capt. Hosa has moved on with his life, steadily after the election, knowing that God gives power only to those whom he chooses.
“For the record, Capt Hosa Okunbo is sound, hale and hearty, the source said emphatically.”
