A Grade I Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a butcher and his friend to 36 months imprisonment for stealing a cellphone and assault.
The police charged Ibrahim Mustapha,22 and George Mark, 31 with joint act, theft and assault, which contravened the provisions of section 79, 265 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Malam Aliyu Kagarko, sentenced the convicts, after they pleaded guilty to the offence.
Kagarko, however, gave them an option to pay a fine of N100, 000 fine each.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olisaemeka Okeke had earlier told the court that the convicts conspired and attacked one Matthew Orjime of ACO estate while he was answering the call of nature.
He said Orjime was attacked by the convicts at Cashew plantation, Car wash, Lugbe and stole his cellphone and money.
The prosecutor said the convicts also stole an ear pod worth N25,000 and N4,500 cash.
He said the complainant was also assaulted and beaten up by the convicts.
The prosecuting also added that the cell phone was recovered during police investigation.(NAN)
