A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced 38-year-old businessman, Hussaini Aliyu, to one year in the Nigeria Correctional Service in Jos, Plateau for borrowing money and absconding.
The convict, pleaded guilty to the charge brought against him by the police.
The Magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati, sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment and also gave him an option of N50,000 fine.
She also ordered him to pay a compensation of N500,000 in default to spend additional 7 months in prison.
While reviewing the facts, the prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the complainant, Jinaidu Zaki, reported the case on March 16, at the Nassarawa Gwong Police station.

Gokwat said the convict met the complainant and borrowed N500,000 to complete his supply of fuel as a fuel station manager and after the money was transferred to him he absconded until he was arrested.
He said the offences contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
