Nigerian music stars Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Ayra Starr, and Omah Lay were unsuccessful in their respective nominations at the 2026 Grammy Awards held on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, United States, on February 1, 2026.

The event, hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah, crowned South Africa’s Tyla as winner of the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category.

Tyla secured the prize ahead of Burna Boy’s ‘Love’, Wizkid and Ayra Starr’s collaboration ‘Gimme Dat’, Davido and Omah Lay’s ‘With You’, and ‘Hope & Love’ by Ugandan singer Eddy Kenzo and Iranian-born artiste Mehran Matin.

Burna Boy also missed out in the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category, where his project was beaten by Youssou N’Dour’s ‘Eclairer le monde: Light the World’.

The latest win further strengthens Tyla’s growing international profile, following her earlier triumph in the same category at the 2024 Grammy Awards for her global hit ‘Water’.

In 2025, the award went to Nigerian singer Tems for her song ‘Love Me JeJe’, after she edged out her colleagues Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Davido, Lojay, and Burna Boy.
