Build on founding fathers’ legacies, Gowon urges NYSC D-G

A former Head of State, Retired Gen. Yakubu Gowon, has urged the management of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to continue to build on the legacies of the founding fathers of the scheme.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Director, Press and Public Relations of NYSC, Mr Eddy Megwa, on Thursday in Abuja.

Megwa quoted the former head of state as stating this on Thursday in Abuja while receiving the acting Director-General of NYSC, Mrs Christy Uba, and the management team who were on a courtesy visit to him.

Gowon, a also founder of the scheme, said that the scheme needs the support of all Nigerians.

While commending the various contributions of corps members to national development, he expressed appreciation to Uba and her team for their exceptional performance so far.

“You and your team are doing well. Continue with the good work you have been doing and keep the flag flying.

You have performed exceptionally well”, the elder statesman said.

In her remarks, Uba thanked Gowon for his unending support to the scheme.

She informed him that the workforce was stable and their morale high. (NAN)
