President Muhammadu Buhari will address the nation, today, Monday, April 27, 2020 at 8pm.

Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement, enjoined  television, radio and other electronic media stations to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast.

The broadcast will centre on the COVID-19 and the federal government’s efforts at containing its spread.

In his broadcast a month ago, President Buhari had announced a two-week lockdown of Lagos, Ogun and the FCT.

The president had, following the expiration of the lockdown two weeks ago, announced an extension for another two weeks which expires today.

There is anxiety in the polity as to what will be the next step the federal government would take. Will it announce further extension by another two weeks or by a month?

Will the federal government announce a total lockdown of the entire country in tandem with the proposal finetuned and presented by the Nigerua Governors’ Forum?

Or, will it announce a change in strategy by relaxing the lockdown and encouraging gradual reopening of the economy amid the rising cries of hunger in the land, famine and looming economic depression in the year ahead?
