Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, has urged the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2007, to ensure transparency and accountability in its operations.
Adedokun made the call during a virtual lecture at a two-day induction programme for members of the Commission’s Board and senior management.
The programme was jointly organised by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) and the commission.
According to a statement issued in Abuja by the BPP’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Zira Nagga, the BPP chief spoke on the theme: _“Essentials of Public Procurement,”_ where he described procurement as a strategic tool for national development rather than merely a purchasing function.

He urged the commission to uphold the core principles of public procurement, including fairness, transparency, accountability, open competition, value for money, efficiency and effectiveness in all procurement activities.

Adedokun also cautioned the commission against common procurement infractions, such as flawed bidding processes, manipulation of bid evaluations, bypassing the Bureau’s oversight, abuse of emergency procurement provisions, poor record-keeping and failure to comply with bid-opening timelines.
He stressed that strict compliance with the procurement law is essential to promoting good governance and ensuring that public resources are managed efficiently.
