The Borno Government has expressed concern over recent cases of reckless driving involving vehicles operated by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Maiduguri.
It warned that offenders will face appropriate sanctions.
The government’s position is contained in a statement on Tuesday in Maiduguri by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar.
According to the statement, the recent road crashes involving CJTF vehicles in different parts of the state have resulted in the tragic loss of lives of residents, commuters and some CJTF personnel, prompting the government to take urgent measures to curb the trend.
Tar said the government regarded the incidents with utmost seriousness and remained committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
He disclosed that the state government was collaborating with relevant agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Ministry of Transport and Energy, and the Borno State Traffic Management Agency (BOTMA), to ensure strict compliance with traffic laws by all road users, including CJTF members.

The commissioner conveyed the government’s condolences to families of the victims affected in the latest incident.
He assured residents that additional measures had been put in place to prevent future occurrences and strengthen enforcement of road safety regulations statewide.
While acknowledging the CJTF’s sacrifices and contributions to counter-insurgency operations and law enforcement, Tar stressed that the government would not tolerate reckless driving that endangers innocent lives.
According to him, any CJTF member found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
