Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has issued a heartfelt plea to the government, urging them to prioritize the enhancement of the nation’s inland waterways infrastructure.

His call aims to facilitate smoother transportation, stimulate economic growth, and prevent the recurring tragedies of boat accidents.

Atiku conveyed this message through his social media platform in response to the recent spate of boat mishaps in the country.

He implored relevant government authorities to take decisive actions to curb these distressing incidents that have unfortunately become a common occurrence.

Expressing his deep sorrow, Atiku lamented the tragic news of a boat accident that claimed the lives of over a dozen individuals, with many others still missing in Gurin, Fufore LGA.

This tragic incident occurred barely 48 hours after a similar catastrophe in Rugange, Yola South LGA of Adamawa State.

The increasing frequency of these boat accidents has raised significant concerns, stretching from Niger, Kwara, and Adamawa to the Niger Delta region.

Atiku stressed the urgent need for the government to invest in the development of our inland waterways.

This investment, he argued, would not only enhance transportation but also promote economic activities while curbing the distressing trend of boat mishaps.

Atiku called upon the relevant agencies to implement measures to put an end to these recurring tragedies.

Atiku extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and offered prayers for peace and solace for the departed souls.

He also expressed his sincere sympathy to the government and the people of Adamawa State in the face of these unfortunate events.
