The Anglican Bishop of the Oyo South Missionary Diocese, Reverend Olufemi Familoni, has commended Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for the remarkable projects executed by his administration across the state, particularly the metropolis.
This was just as Familoni urged Makinde to extend his administration’s developmental efforts to rural areas in Oyo State.
He made this commendation and appeal during the Presidential Charge at the first synod of the diocese, held at the Cathedral Church of St. John in Akinmoorin, Oyo State, on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
Familoni stated: “We sincerely commend the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for his visible efforts and demonstrated commitment to the growth and development of Oyo State.
“We note with appreciation the transformation witnessed in several parts of Ibadan, especially in road construction, urban renewal, and the rehabilitation of critical public infrastructure.
“These developments have greatly improved transportation, commerce, and the overall outlook of the capital city.”
The bishop noted, however, that in the spirit of fairness, inclusiveness, and balanced development, it is vital to remember that Oyo State comprises many towns and communities whose contributions to governance and electoral support are equally significant.
He appealed to the governor to be more deliberate in extending development to other parts of the state.
”Communities within the Afijio Local Government Area, among others, still experience noticeable developmental gaps. Many towns remain underdeveloped in terms of infrastructure, such as roads and essential amenities like water; this requires urgent intervention,” the bishop stated.
He also reminded Governor Makinde that local governments are pivotal to rural development and community-based governance.
Familoni stated that under the current dispensation, the expected progress at this level has not yet been achieved.
Familoni appealed for the independence of local governments so they could function effectively and for the timely release of funds so local authorities can deliver on their mandates.
According to Familoni, balanced development is both a moral responsibility and a mark of equitable leadership, adding that “every part of the state deserves to feel the impact of governance.”
He prayed that God would grant Makinde the “wisdom, strength, and grace to finish well and leave behind a legacy of fairness, inclusiveness, and enduring impact across all regions of Oyo State.”
