A report doing the rounds in Benue State said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in the State, Rt Hon. Titus Ubah, was down with stroke.
But the report did not indicate the extent of the attack, whether it was massive or mild; and whether or not he had been hospitalised as well as when and where the incident happened.
But in a swift riposte, Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Mr Nath Ikyur, dismissed the report as a lie from the pit of hell.
In a telephone chat with THE CONCLAVE on Friday, Mr Ikyur, apparently laughing off the report, said this was a season of politics, adding that falsehood and propaganda would be deployed in fouling the environment and demarketing potential winners.
Ikyur, however, said that although the guber candidate was under the weather, it was a case of acute malaria.
He was categorical that the guber candidate was not down with stroke.
Ikyur said that it was the wish of the opposition parties in Benue State that the PDP guber candidate should die.
According to him: “But their evil wishes would come to nought. Our guber candidate in the PDP is poised to win next year’s governorship election.
“The opposition parties know this. That is why they are wishing him dead. But fortunately for us and unfortunately for them, they are not God and to play God will be foolhardy.
“My brother, I will be glad to invite you next year to the swearing in ceremony of Rt Hon. Titus Ubah as the next governor of Benue State after the exit of the incumbent, His Excellency, Dr Samuel Ortom.”
Feelers from Benue State indicate that the PDP guber candidate has been out of circulation for some days now.
A source told THE CONCLAVE that the guber candidate was absent on November 15, 2022 at Kwande where a former governor of the State, and PDP Senator, Gabriel Suswam, flagged off his senatorial campaign.
The last time the guber candidate was seen in the public was on November 6 when the State Governor hosted the G-5 governors in Makurdi.
On that occasion, Governor Ortom named a street on which the house of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is located after Governor Nyesom Wike.
