Assemblyman Peter Uche, Member, Benue State House of Assembly (APC/Guma I), says he is addressing acute water scarcity in some communities in his constituency.
Uche said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, in Makurdi.
He said that the communities had been suffering following lack of adequate water for a long time.
The lawmaker told NAN that the terrain in one of the communities made sinking of boreholes difficult, but he was determined to change the narrative.
He said that a legislator’s role was to make meaningful contributions in the House toward development.
Uche said apart from sponsoring bills and moving motions, especially on issues like security that affect the people, he initiated some projects and interventions to mitigate his people’s sufferings.

“I have also been able to touch the lives of my constituents directly. For example, I initiated a snakebite treatment support scheme at St. Teresa Hospital, working with the doctor there, and we have saved lives through that intervention.
“In terms of projects, I have facilitated the drilling of a borehole in Yogbo and another one in Daudu.
“I am also scheduled to drill another on April 20th in Ortese, where borehole drilling has been very difficult. I am determined to break that jinx.
“I have engaged water engineers with the capacity to handle that terrain, and that project is going to be one of my biggest achievements within these two years I have spent in the House.
“There is also another location currently under survey for drilling. So, my focus has largely been on the welfare of my people, especially considering the peculiar challenges they face due to displacement over lingering insecurity,” he stated.
