Benin High Court remands three suspects for attempted Kidnap

A Benin High Court has remanded three suspected kidnappers in prison custody.

They were alleged to have attempted to abduct three members of a family.

Hon. Justice Ohimai Oviageli, a vacation court judge, gave the remand order on Tuesday.

The suspects are Bright Emumwen, Evans Osariemen and aChukwudi Anyanwu.

The court ordered that they be remanded at the Sapele Road Prison, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution of Edo State.

In the charge sheet marked No. B/CD/1495M/2021, the suspects were alleged to have conspired among themselves to kidnap one Sunday Onofua ‘M’, his wife Patience Onofua ‘F and their son Samuel Onufua, all of Okpagha community off Benin-Auchi road Benin City, Edo State.

After their arraignment, Justice Oviageli ordered that the suspects be remanded in prison custody.

I.E. Ekibade, the prosecution counsel, had asked the court for trial date after the arraignment but the presideing judge, Justice Oviageli ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution of Edo State for legal advice, while the case was adjourned to September 13, 2021.

Meanwhile, M.Mgweoke represented the 3rd suspect, Chuwudi Anyanwu, while the the 1st and 2nd suspects were unrepresented by counsel.
