Bayelsa United, former Aiteo Cup champions, will commence their 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign with an away match against Shooting Stars.
The fixture is set for the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on August 22, 2025.
The draws, announced at the NPFL’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Abuja, pit the Prosperity Boys against the Oluyole Warriors on matchday one. This clash marks the start of what promises to be a competitive season for Bayelsa United.
Last season, Bayelsa United secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Shooting Stars at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
Ifeanyi Ogba scored twice, with Magbisa Wisdom adding a third goal, ensuring the visitors left empty-handed.
The NPFL’s opening weekend features other notable matchups, including the defending champions against Rivers United in a highly anticipated clash. Elsewhere, Abia Warriors will face Kano Pillars, while Wikki Tourists host Plateau United.
Additional fixtures include newly-promoted Warri Wolves against Katsina United and Rangers International versus Kun Khalifa FC.
El-Kanemi Warriors will take on Bendel Insurance, Barau FC will challenge Enyimba International, and Niger Tornadoes will meet Nasarawa United.
Dr. Tarilaye Nwankwe, Bayelsa United’s chairman, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, stating, “Preparations are in top gear, and the team is focused.
“With government support, we’re approaching every game like a cup final to entertain our fans and aim for a podium finish.”
