Bayelsa United management presents pairs of boots to feeder team

The management of Bayelsa United on Thursday presented new pairs of boots to the Bayelsa United Feeders after a brilliant outing in the ongoing Bayelsa State Governor’s Football Tournament christened the Prosperity Cup.

The presentation was done at the Samson Siasia Stadium by the chairman Ebiki Timitimi alongside his board members and some parents of the players.

Bayelsa United Feeders produced one of the outstanding performances in the Prosperity Cup before exiting the tournament in the quarter finals.

They suffered a 2-1 defeat in the hands of finalist Crusaders Feeders FC of Peretorugbene.

In a remark, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mrs Grace Alagoa, urged the players to desist from drugs, criminality and other social vices, maintaining that drugs had cut short the careers of many of players in the world.

Also, Director of Sports Bayelsa State Sports Council, Sir Braveman Wodi, thanked the chairman and his team for the initiative, stating that he was pleased to see players within the age range of 13 to 15 years in the team describing it as a perfect definition of a Feeder team.

He explained that since the creation of the State, this is the first time the right age were being recruited, stating that in the past it had always been players who were above the age of Feeders, urging them to combine their careers and education.

In an address of welcome, chairman of Bayelsa United, Ebiki Timitimi, said the essence of the gesture was to compliment the players for their outstanding outing in the Prosperity Cup, advising them to be obedient to their parents.

He hinted that due to their exploits in the Laliga U15 tournament in Ogun State and Prosperity Cup, the team had been invited for a scouting programme in Ughelli, Delta State as well as an invitation to Ikenna.

In an interview, parents of the players, PraiseGod Obua, Mrs Blessing Kalabo, Mrs Timi Ayogoi, appreciated the Bayelsa State governor Senator Douye Diri and his deputy senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo for given the kids the platform to showcase their talents.

In special goodwill messages from Technical Adviser of Bayelsa United, Diepreye Teibowei, Ekine Dressman and Ebizimo Numa, the lads were advised to take advantage of the platform, saying that for a player to excel he must apply what they termed as the “3Ds”- Discipline, Determination and Dedication.
