The Community Peace and Development Initiative (CPDI), alongside sister organisations, launched the Renewed Hope Empowerment Scheme at the Ox-bow Lake Pavilion in Swali, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (covering Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta States), delivered the welcome address, describing the initiative as a flagship program of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to him, “the scheme focuses on job creation, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, and the distribution of food and non-food items to vulnerable women, alongside ICT training in digital marketing.”
Amgbare urged Bayelsans to maintain a peaceful environment to support the continuation of such empowerment programs.
The event’s Special Guest of Honour, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), praised APC members in Bayelsa for their resilience in a state dominated by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He highlighted the region’s peace, which has boosted oil production, and emphasized that the empowerment scheme would strengthen small and medium enterprises (SMEs), a key driver of economic growth.
Yilwatda encouraged beneficiaries to utilize the distributed items to enhance their livelihoods.
Chief Barr. Dennis Otiotio Odoni, APC Bayelsa State Chairman, noted that the program was designed to empower residents and showcase President Tinubu’s contributions to the state.
He expressed gratitude for federal interventions, including the construction of the second phase of the Nembe-Brass road, appointments of Bayelsans to key positions, and increased funding for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
These funds have enabled legacy projects, such as the “Light Up the Niger Delta” initiative, which has illuminated remote communities.
Chief Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the NDDC, clarified that the program was not a political campaign but a strategic effort to support President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He urged Niger Deltans to appreciate the opportunities provided through federal appointments and to support the administration in the 2027 elections.
In solidarity messages, APC National Secretary Senator Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru and National Vice Chairman (South-South) Chief Victor Giadom called on APC appointees to unite and ensure grassroots inclusion in the Renewed Hope Agenda to maximize its impact.
The distribution of empowerment items, coordinated by Engr. Preye Aganaba, Executive Director of Socials and Human Capital Development at the South-South Development Commission and CDI Trustee, included 100 mini-buses, 100 refrigerators, 100 generators, and 100 coolers, allocated across local government areas.
The event underscored the federal government’s commitment to economic development and social inclusion in the Niger Delta, with stakeholders optimistic about its potential to transform livelihoods in Bayelsa State.
