Prince Preye Aganaba, the Bayelsa State Coordinator of the Independent Campaign Council for Tinubu-Shettima, has alleged that leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, particularly in his Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area, are orchestrating a plan to assassinate him ahead of the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa.

Aganaba, who shares the same local government area with the state’s Governor, Douye Diri, stated that credible intelligence reports had shownthat PDP leaders had been holding secretive and prolonged meetings to finalize a sinister scheme to eliminate him.

The reason for the plot is believed to be to prevent any embarrassment to the governor during the upcoming election.

The PDP leaders are reportedly feeling uneasy due to the outcome of the past presidential election in Kolokuma-Opokuma, where Aganaba’s influence contributed to the PDP’s defeat in several wards of the local government area.

Aganaba has further disclosed that a group of notorious individuals, led by an unrepentant militant, is being considered to carry out the assassination, disguised as an accident.

He urgently appealed to security agencies, particularly the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), to beef up security measures around.

Aganaba emphasized that if any harm befell him, the responsibility should be attributed to the PDP leaders.

In a statement, Aganaba asserted: “I wish to bring to the general public credible reports I and my security team have received concerning threats to my life and asinine plans to eliminate me before the November 11 Governorship elections. Several secret meetings have been held and men of the underworld are being considered to carry out their most base plan, so this statement is my first line of defense.”

He condemned the idea of resorting to political assassinations, stating that candidates, supporters, and parties had legitimate avenues to campaign and present their platforms to voters.

Aganaba called for the protection of the democratic process and urged security agencies and the public to monitor his situation closely.

He concluded by stating, “But more importantly, even beyond my own life, is the duty we all have to protect our democratic process, to make all votes count and to keep off intimidation and violence from our elections.”
