From Amgbare Prince in Yenagoa
Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has instructed security commanders to secure the safe release of Justice Ebieyerin Omukoro, a state high court judge kidnapped by armed men in Yenagoa on Saturday.
Speaking on Monday during his thank-you tour in Sagbama Local Government Area, Governor Diri warned criminals and their sponsors to desist, highlighting the state’s investment in CCTV cameras and security equipment.
He disclosed that footage of the kidnappers had been captured, aiding ongoing investigations.
“Upon learning of the judge’s abduction, I immediately directed security commanders to ensure the judge’s safe return,” Diri said.
“Let those involved in this crime know there’s no escape. Our security investments, including CCTV, have recorded the incident.”
Diri expressed gratitude to Sagbama residents for their overwhelming support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 11, 2023 governorship election, securing his second term.
He called for unity between Sagbama and Ekeremor councils in Bayelsa West senatorial district to foster peace.
Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo described Sagbama as the PDP’s stronghold, noting the area’s significant votes, dubbed ‘Kano votes,’ in the 2019 and 2023 elections.
He thanked former governor and current Senator Seriake Dickson for endorsing Diri and praised Sagbama’s loyalty to the Prosperity Government.
Representatives from Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency and Sagbama Constituencies 1, 2, and 3—Dr. Frederick Agbedi, Dr. Godbless Oyinke, Lt. Col. Bernard Kenebai (rtd), and Hon. Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown—commended Diri for advancing the Sagbama-Ekeremor road project and other infrastructure.
They urged intervention to revive the long-abandoned Abuetor-Elemebiri-Asamabiri road project.
At the Pere of Kumbowei Kingdom’s palace, King Boloyi Sufadoh, Diri and Ewhrudjakpo received walking sticks, hats, and copies of the Holy Bible.
