Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the peaceful and hitch-free conduct of its ward congresses held across the state.
The governor, who also serves as the APC leader in Bayelsa, gave the commendation after taking part in the congress at his hometown, Sampou/Kalama Ward 6, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
Diri congratulated party delegates for unanimously electing new ward leaders through consensus and voice vote affirmation, describing the process as a shining example of unity and maturity.
He stressed that politics should unite rather than divide people, with the primary goal of driving development at the ward, local government, and state levels.“Politics should not disunite us. Rather, it should bring us together because the goal is to bring development to our communities, local government, and the state,” the governor said.
Diri expressed confidence that the APC national leadership would be proud of Bayelsa’s rancour-free exercise and predicted the same peaceful outcome for Saturday’s local government congresses and the subsequent state congress.

He noted that reports reaching him showed the ward congresses were largely peaceful across the state, with no major incidents.
The governor thanked the APC National Executive Committee, the state caretaker committee led by Dr. Dennis Otiotio, other party leaders, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agencies for ensuring a smooth process.
In Sampou/Kalama Ward 6, supervised by the State Congress Election Committee under Chief Frank Omare, Mr. Shedrach Fetuga was elected chairman along with other executives.
In his acceptance speech, Fetuga thanked party faithful for their trust and vowed to work towards APC victories in upcoming elections, including the 2027 governorship race.
The congress was observed by State Congress Screening Committee chairman, Hon. Oghene Egoh, and INEC representative, Engr. Prince Erasmus.Diri’s commendation comes as the party prepares for higher-level congresses to strengthen its structure ahead of future elections.
