Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has called on Christian leaders to eliminate unhealthy competition among denominations to strengthen the spread of the Gospel.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the National Vice President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), South-South, Archbishop Emmah Isong, at Government House in Yenagoa on Monday, Ewhrudjakpo criticized divisive teachings that undermine the unity of the Christian faith.

The deputy governor expressed concern over the growing rivalry among churches, stating it hampers the impact of the Gospel.

He emphasized the need for churches to collaborate on social initiatives, such as poverty alleviation and youth empowerment, to demonstrate the practical impact of the Gospel.

“It is rare to hear the undiluted message of salvation from the pulpit nowadays,” he said, urging Christians to embrace oneness to fulfill the Great Commission.

He predicted that a unified Church, free from competitive divisions, would revive the spirit of Pentecost.

Ewhrudjakpo thanked the PFN for their consistent support for the state administration and assured them of the government’s backing for their initiatives.

He called on the PFN to intensify prayers for national unity, given Nigeria’s ongoing socio-economic challenges.

He stressed that spiritual solidarity among Christians could inspire hope and resilience in communities, urging the PFN to lead by example in promoting harmony across denominations.

He promised to convey their requests to Governor Douye Diri for action.

Archbishop Isong, in his remarks, praised Bayelsa as a stronghold of Christianity in the South-South region.

He commended the state government’s contributions to the Christian community and sought support for PFN’s 40th anniversary celebration and the construction of its new national secretariat in Abuja.

The PFN delegation pledged to work closely with the state government to advance these shared goals.

The PFN delegation included the state chairman, Pastor Tam Seth Eyedoude, and other executives.
