The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr Peter Akpe, has assured residents of intensified development projects and programmes before the Senator Douye Diri administration ends in 2028.

Akpe gave the assurance on Monday when he received the leadership of the Bayelsa Elders Council at Government House, Yenagoa.

He acknowledged the impressive strides recorded by the Assured Prosperity Administration since February 2020 but said the government would now pursue its goals with greater vigour.

While thanking the Elders Council for its consistent collaboration, Akpe stressed the need to sustain the partnership to deliver a more prosperous and secure state.

Describing the visit as “remarkable,” he urged the elders not to withhold their counsel, saying the administration still needed their wisdom to finish strong.

“Life is continuous learning. So, like Solomon in the Bible did, I should be the one looking for you (elders) to tap wisdom from you because you are the custodians of wisdom,” Akpe said.

“We appreciate you as a government, and on behalf of the Governor, I want to say thank you. But we want you to continue with your collaboration. As we round off this lap, we strongly believe that with your support, we will get better developmental results for the state.”

Council Chairman and former Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd.), said the body’s core mandate was to work with government for the overall development of the state.
Jonah congratulated Akpe on his elevation and assured him of the Council’s continued support.

The chairman was accompanied by Vice Chairman Elder Zee Debekeme, Secretary-General Chief Douyi Douglas Naingba, Retired Major Andrew Oputa, Prof. Francis Sikoki, Lady Love Amaseimogha, Dr Josephine Igodo, Chief Augustine Lugbenwei, Dr Georgina Ngeri-Nwagha and Chief Mrs Cecilia Olisa.

Government officials present included Acting Chief of Staff Hon. Irorodamie Komonibo, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor Comrade Gowon Toruyouyei, and Commissioner for Information Mrs Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai.
