Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe has tasked fresh defectors to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to mobilise for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all party candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Akpe gave the charge on Tuesday at Government House while formally receiving a fresh batch of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Leading the defectors were former PDP State Secretary Deacon James Agari, Governor Douye Diri’s Technical Adviser on Special Duties and one-time PDP Legal Adviser Mr Richard Perekeme, and a serving councillor from Ward 6, Sagbama Local Government Area, Ebipere Napoleon

The deputy governor dismissed claims of coercion or financial inducement, insisting Governor Diri’s administration welcomes new members voluntarily.

“As I said the other day, His Excellency does not believe in the use of coercion or financial inducement,” Akpe said. “We accept decamped members wholeheartedly. Your political clout is not something you built today; the party will give you due recognition.

“Our first mandate is to deliver President Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates at every level.”

He called on the new members to strengthen the party’s structure in Sagbama and promote unity, peace and tolerance.

State APC Senatorial Vice Chairman (West), Mr Akuakwa B. Akuakwa, also welcomed the defectors, urging harmonious collaboration ahead of next year’s polls.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Deacon Agari said their decision was driven by the collapse of the PDP and the need to align with Governor Diri’s “Prosperity Government.”

“When our leader, the governor, decamped to the APC, some of us stayed behind. But now we have seen that the PDP is dead,” Agari said. “We cannot waste our time and that of our supporters. This is the right time to join our leader for the good of Bayelsa State.”
