Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, has commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for his sustained focus on capacity building and welfare initiatives during the opening ceremony of a specialised training for officers and men of the command.
The training, themed Integrated Mental Health: Trauma-Informed Care and Emergency Response, aimed at enhancing the psychological resilience, emotional intelligence, and emergency response capabilities of police personnel in the execution of their constitutional duties.
CP Iyamah said that the program is both timely and strategic, as officers frequently face complex security challenges that expose them to traumatic experiences.
The Commissioner emphasized that mental health should never be viewed as a weakness, stating: “It is a strength. It is the foundation upon which we build our lives, our relationships and our dreams.”
CP Iyamah urged participants to fully engage with the training, stressing the importance of applying the acquired knowledge in daily operations and serving as peer resource persons within the command.
He further stated that officers who are mentally sound and emotionally balanced are better equipped to serve the public with professionalism, empathy, and restraint.
