Bayelsa Athletics appoints Dr. Samuel Oredipe as chairman

Dr. Samuel Kolawole Oredipe has been appointed as the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Athletics Association, succeeding Mr. Godwin Oghogho whose tenure has expired.

The appointment was confirmed in a letter signed by Mr. Andrew Aye, Director of Sports at the Bayelsa State Sports Council. It highlights Dr. Oredipe’s significant contributions to the growth of athletics in the state over the past five years.

A former middle-distance runner, Dr. Oredipe previously served as Vice-Chairman of the Bayelsa State Athletics Association.

He is also a current board member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), where he holds the position of Auditor.

In the appointment letter, Mr. Aye commended the new chairman’s track record and urged him to collaborate closely with key stakeholders to drive further progress in the sport within Bayelsa.

Beyond his athletics roles, Dr. Oredipe is a seasoned broadcaster and currently serves as Director-General of the Bayelsa State Government New Media Directorate.

He is the founder of SamKay Athletics Club in Yenagoa, which has played a key role in identifying and developing young talents in track and field events. Several athletes nurtured by the club have gone on to represent Bayelsa at national competitions and Nigeria at international levels.

Dr. Oredipe’s elevation is seen as a boost for grassroots athletics development in the state, leveraging his experience as an athlete, administrator, and talent scout.
