About 24 hours after the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki rebuffed his deputy, Phillip Shaibu during a church service in the State Governmet House at a service to mark 32nd anniversary of the state creation, the governor’s camp on Monday launched another assault.

This time round, the media crew attached to the Office of the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu, was “attacked” by the security men attached to the Office of the State Governor.

The incident was at the ongoing 60th anniversary celebration of Midwest Referendum at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub in Benin.

The media crew of the State Deputy Governor, according to reports, was at work when the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Andrew Okungbowa and the Public Relations Officer, Office of the Governor, Ms Osarumwense Margaret Ojo, identified them one after the other before security men of the Governor, who physically forced them out of the venue.

All efforts made by the Deputy Governor to make sure they remained in the venue were futile as he was told by the security men that it was “instruction from above.”

At that point, Shaibu said he could not be in an event from where his media crew was barred.

He subsequently left the venue.

It will be recalled that the Deputy Governor suffered similar attack and humiliation in the hands of the security personnel attached to the Governor only on Sunday at the 32nd anniversary celebration of the creation of Edo State.

Shuaibu had made to go greet the governor right in the front row in the church, but the givernircsecurity details fenced him off, refusing to allow his to get close to the Governor.

The deputy governor had to bow to the governor from afar off in greetings.

The development has attracted public condemnation.
