▪Who is the authentic standard bearer between Uba and Ozigbo?
Confusion has dogged the governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State with the emergence of two candidates from parallel exercises.
Mr Valentine Ozigbo, former CEO of Transcorp, Plc., emerged winner in one of the primaries, while Senator Ugochukwu Uba had earlier emerged the candidate in the other.
Deputy Governor of Edo State and Head of the Electoral Panel, Mr Philip Shuaibu, announced Ozigbo’s victory at the Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre, Awka on Saturday.
He said Ozigbo polled 62 votes and was closely followed by Dr Obiora Okonkwo who polled 58 votes.
He said that Senator Uche Ekwunife, representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly, was third with 44 votes.
Dr Winston Udeh was fourth with 12 votes while Mr Chris Azubogu representing Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo got 10 votes.
Other aspirants were Dr Godwin Maduka ( five votes); Ms Genevieve Ekwochi (three votes); Mrs Chidi Onyemelukwue (two votes); Chief Walter Okeke, (two votes) and Dr Ifenna Okwenna (one vote).
A total of sixteen aspirants contested for the PDP ticket out of which twelve were present at the venue and three withdrew from the race.
Earlier, a parallel primary had produced a university lecturer and one-time member of the Nigeruan Senate, Dr Ugochukwu Uba as the winner and candidate of the party.
In the primary election, Uche Ekwunife reportedly contested and scored votes even as she also reportedly contested in the exercise that produced Ozigbo.
The question as to who is the authentic standard bearer of the PDP in November 6 governorship poll in Anambra may have to be decided by the courts.
